IC, Mitsuru is... kind fo in an inbetween state. A lot of people have left and she's feeling extremely uncomfortable about that and stir-crazy about getting out. Her recent trip home only helped her so much, and while she's in a better personal place than she's been in weeks, she's feeling disconnected and at a crossroads in her friendships and relationships. Mainly, she feels decent but slightly useless.
OOC:
I dunno, I'm not really okay with Mitsuru anymore. I barely bring her out--once a week for a short thread at most, and sometimes, not even that. It isn't a lack of confidence in voice of playing ability, but mainly... a boredom. A lack of interest. I played her canon so long ago and have no interest to return to it that I'm really at a loss as to how to re-ignite my passion for playing her. On top of that, she requires more thought to bring out than Jennifer, which is probably why she's never my go-to character anymore.
Dropability:
Looking like an 8/10 by the end of the month right now. I would love to change this, but I don't see my enthusiasm for her picking back up anytime soon.

HAHAHAHA. As of right now? Jennifer is in a terrible, terrible place mentally and emotionally. She hasn't spoken to Needy in a long time, she just made a deal with Sam to not deal with the Winchesters for the time being, Naoto is repeatedly rejecting her advances, Lady shot her in the head, and everything just really sucks. She has no one to bother and no one to talk to, and she'd never admit it, but she feels incredibly lonely and even kind of used, as hypocritical as that is. This means there will be lots of boy-eating in the days to come. Men: like Ben & Jerry's in a way.
OOC:
I LOVE PLAYING JENN SO MUCH, GUYS. So much so that I stay up till 4am regularly to play her. I haven't fucked up my sleep schedule for a character in a long time.

Ones that are relatively short. I prefer characterization and humour over plot, but don't like a lot of meta unless it is done very well and in unique ways.

Looking at your comment below as well, definitely Being Human. First season's 6 episodes, second season is 8 and I can give you DDLs for it easily. It's all about its characters and it's hilarious in places but also does have some genuinely creepy moments and disturbing things, especially in the second season. It's not perfectly pretty, but that's because it tends to go for realism.

Animanga-wise, have you seen Baccano? Brilliant characters, gorgeous animation, lots of humour and a fair bit of creepiness.

I saw an episode of Being Human once and was intrigued! I definitely have more time to watch stuff now that it's summer, so I might ask you for those links eventually.

I never saw Baccano, though it's been reccomended to me numerous times. I haven't watched an anime since Gundam 00, though. It seriously takes a certain something to keep me watching, and I have no idea what that thing is. But I can try it out.

Baccano can be pretty jarring since it jumps around timelines so much that you pretty much need to see it twice to figure out what the plot actually is, but if you're in it for the characters like I was then that doesn't really matter so much. Also the fact that you don't know what's going on can be incentive to keep watching it. I hadn't watched anything for years before I got around to seeing it, but it's pretty much one of the best anime I've ever seen. Speaking of which, Durarara's by the same people and is also excellent, although pretty different (more focus on plot and plot twists, also less funny).

I like short canons that are easy to get my hands on. As I said upthread, plot does not necessarily matter to me so much as characterization and I need some humour to hold on to. I am also very biased against things I don't find aesthetically pleasing, so in terms of manga/anima/comics, I won't read or watch something if the art or animation disagrees with me. I like horror/creepiness/disturbing images a whole lot.

Well, only because it's my current love affair, your girl, Diablo Cody, wrote United States of Tara that tends to run more for characters and humor than plot so much. Almost heinously so, but I do love the characters so much. —And I feel you on the lack of pretty. I have trouble getting through unpretty series.

I don't know if I'm willing to commit to a series-long exposure to Diablo Cody-isms, but it's been on my watch list for awhile.

Mitsuru on Akito:
WELL... it's complicated. She has a lot of anger about it, but what Akito said is actually nothing she hasn't heard before, and a lot of it is what she used to tell herself. Mitsuru has a number of insecurities lurking beneath the surface, and her balance between the feminine and masculine and what it means for being a woman in power (and what sacrifices she has to make, such as her arranged marriage) is a big part of her anxieties for the future. So she's thought about it.

It is because she's thought long and hard about it that she was able to keep her anger under control. She actually feels bad for Akito in a way, and considering her first exposure to him, she feels that he's that way because he's been raised to it, so she feels as though she cannot fully blame him. But... that doesn't mean she has to like him. She intends to do some snooping and get some info from Shigure the next opportunity she can. She's intrigued, but cautious.

Because it's suburban it's pretty tame compared to Jennifer's Body! Which I loved, by the way. It's just a lot more doing different takes on sexual identities and such.

I know it's not short, but D Gray Man definitely has good characters and is very creepy and disturbing, but still manages to have some humor in it. The best part is that it has loads and load of characters and we only have a few in camp, so you would have a lot to choose from. However I will note that it's on chapter 193 right now and it's still ongoing, and the story starts out really cool but starts to drop a bit with the most recent arcs. But overall it's still pretty good? And since it's really popular it's easy to get.

Also, if you can do video games, Okami would be a good choice too. Great story, great characters, and fomg sopretty.

March Story (http://www.mangafox.com/manga/march_story/) - not humor! ... Aesthetically it's a bit like Tim Burton does manga, which may or may not be a good thing. I don't particularly care for TB but I do enjoy March Story.

HOUOU GAKUEN MISORAGUMI (http://www.mangafox.com/manga/houou_gakuen_misoragumi/v01/c001/) - which is a gag series! I think the characters are pretty fantastic. In my mind it's like if MariaHolic and Ouran Host Club fused inside of a blender.

... also! I am a huge fan of this, but ... anyway. Hack/Slash is a comic book about a girl name Cassie who hunts "slashers" ( like monsters from B horror films ) with her pal Vlad. It's full of gratuitous violence and semi-nudity but I think it can be both funny and interesting beyond that. 1) I've actually been warned away from Wicked. I was told it was quite solidly not my kinda thing, so I dunno what to believe.

2) SHE HAS BEEN GOING TO THE FOREST A LOT LATELY to angst in private. She wouldn't mind company.

3) I... don't know. There's no particular one thing, it was just kind of a perfect storm of everything coming together in a way I found compelling. I really enjoy films that try to fuck with the Hollywood system, and nothing does that more than a female-written, female-directed movie about a deranged lesbian cheerleader eating boys. I mean, that's pretty much the perfect tagline, isn't it?

My favourite movies tend to be ones that are satirical (darkly or not) takes on the teenager experience, because I still identify heavily with being a teenager (even... if I'm not). Mean Girls, Heathers, Ginger Snapes, etc: some of my favourite movies of all times. Jennifer's Body is kind of a spiritual follow-up to those films.

I think... that some of it was also being there at the world premiere. I always like movies 10x more if I see them a) before anyone else and b) if celebrities are in the room with me. Call me shallow but w/e.

Jennifer is definitely interested in Naoto. As a potential boyfriend? No. As a friend? Yeah, definitely. Sexually? Uhuhuhuhuuuu yes. Naoto is sort of... like, "safe" to Jennifer. Because Jennifer sees Naoto as a boy, but not a boy boy, and is therefore not a threat or a snack or anything she associates primarily with maleness. And because she doesn't really consider Naoto a girl, that is doubly awesome for her, because Jennifer is still deeply in denial of her sexuality.

IT'S COMPLICATED AND THAT MAKES NO SENSE, I KNOW. But yeah, Jennifer really is attracted to Naoto and will continue to harrass her for the foreseeable future.

Funny story, but after seeing the movie I was intent on NOT apping Jennifer. Because I was raving about it in my journal and talking about how amazing it was, I figured that... it would be too obvious and I thought that if I did app her, she'd be another Regina George and have a few fun threads before I eventually would drop her in two months or less.

But if there was a moment, it would definitely be the part where she murders Colin for no reason other than Needy seems to like him. I don't know, it's like pretty much the thing I love most about her characterization: she's so fucking nuts and malicious but is still worryingly and kind of sadly attached to Needy without understanding why.
